Saumya Mishra, a Sub Divisional Magistrate posted in Mirzapur and hailing from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, cleared the UPSC 2024 with an incredible rank of 18. Saumya Mishra’s Family Background
Saumya Mishra’s family is originally from the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. They moved to Delhi almost 15 years ago. Her father’s name is Raghavendra Mishra and he is a postgraduate Hindi teacher and works in a college in Delhi. Her mother is a homemaker. Saumya Mishra has a younger sister, Sumegha Mishra who also cleared UPSC 2024 with an All India rank of 253. Her grandmother resides in Ajaypur Village, the place where she is originally from.
Saumya Mishra comes from a family that values education and hard work. Saumya credits her parents as her motivation for clearing the civil services examination. The success of both their daughters brought immense joy to Raghvendra and his family.
Saumya Mishra Educational Background
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Saumya did her schooling and college from Delhi as her father was posted in Delhi. Saumya Mishra completed her schooling from Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya in Yamuna Vihar, Northeast Delhi. After completing her schooling in 2014, Saumya attended Kirorimal College (Delhi University) for her bachelor’s in Geography. Upon her graduation from Kirorimal university in 2017, she joined the Delhi School of Economics for her Masters in Geography. Saumya Mishra cleared JRF NET in 2018, during her master’s in the Delhi school of Economics. She graduated from the Delhi School of Economics with a university gold medal for scoring the highest marks in MA Geography.
Saumya Mishra Work Experience
After completing her masters from the Delhi school of Economics she worked as a post graduate teacher in Geography in Delhi. She worked as a lecturer for a period of 5 months from September 2022 to January 2023. Saumya Mishra appeared for the UPPSC examination in 2021 and successfully cleared it with 2nd rank. She left the teaching profession after clearing the UPPSC. She worked as a Deputy collector for a period of 10 months from June 2023 to March 2024 in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. She was then appointed as an SDM in Mirzapur. Saumya completed her training from the UP administrative Academy in Lucknow which included a one year program consisting of three phases – foundational, district and professional training courses.
She currently holds 2 years of experience as an SDM and this provided her with administrative experience and a deeper insight into public service which helped her in the civil services preparation. She did her UPSC preparation along with her SDM job in Mirzapur. Saumya received a lot of support from her colleagues and senior officers while she was preparing for her civil services examination.

Given her strong academic foundation in Geography, she decided to choose Geography as her optional paper. The analytical skills she acquired from her master’s days in the Delhi School of Economics proved to be beneficial for various administrative roles and to understand various regional development challenges.
Saumya Mishra’s Interests and Hobbies
Saumya has a keen interest in origami. She believes that Origami can be a resource-friendly educational tool. She also has experience as a Hindi magazine editor where her responsibilities included proofreading, structuring content, and ensuring grammatical accuracy.
