Ruhani’s Biography
The 28-year-old Ruhani, the once IAS aspirant finally fulfilled her dreams by cracking the most competitive exam that is the Union Public Service Commission’s Civil Service Examination. She not only cracked but also with a rank of 5th (AIR 5) on an all-India basis. This brought her much attention among her peers, family, and other millions of IAS aspirations that through hard work and perseverance everything is possible.
Ruhani, who belonged to a Punjabi family, was originally from Jalandhar Punjab. But she lives in Gurgaon, Haryana, and was brought up in the state of Telangana. An already IPS, Ruhani had shown through her results her unyielding and unwavering nature of not letting anything be the hindrance of achieving your aspirations. A trait that will not only inspire the future aspirants but also fill in them to thrive and achieve.
Ruhani’s Educational Background
- In 2017, Ruhani graduated in political science (BA) from Stephens School.
- Later, she went on to do her masters from IGNOU in the same subject and completed her master’s in 2019.
- After completing her education she appeared on the Indian Economics Exam and cleared it to become an Assistant Director at the NITI Ayog. There she worked for three years from 2020-2023 in Bangalore.
She then passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) and was promoted to the rank of IPS officer. She remained in her position as a trainee in the IPS Academy of Hyderabad. Later on she became an IAS officer by securing the 5th rank in the UPSC CSE. Her accomplishments show that she is dedicated to public service and has a strong commitment to it.
Ruhani;s Work Experience
After earning a bachelor’s degree in 2017 with honours in economics from St. Stephen’s College, Ruhani went on to earn herself a master’s degree in the same subject from IGNOU. She completed her masters in 2019.
In August 2020, she joined NITI Ayog as an Assistant Director after clearing the Indian Economics Exam (IES). She remained there until October 2023, when she became a trainee at the IPS (IPS Academy in Hyderabad).
Ruhani’s Family Background
IAS Ruhani belongs to a family with a strong educational background. Her father, Suresh Seth, and mother, Neelam Rani both are educational professionals (teachers) in government schools. Her brother is also a scientific engineer.

Ruhani – Optional and UPSC Preparation
IAS Ruhani started her UPSC preparation as soon as she completed her master’s in Economics from IGNOU. She is also a graduate in the same subject from Stephen’s College, (Delhi University).
Therefore, she had a deep understanding of the subject of Economics and she eventually opted for economics as her optional paper. She prepared for the civil service examination diligently and first cracked the IPS. She was a trainee in the IPS Academy of Hyderabad before cracking UPSC CSE again with the rank 5th on an all-India basis.
Ruhani – Success Story
IAS Ruhani started preparing for UPSC after she completed her master’s in Economics from IGNOU.
It was on her sixth attempt that she cracked India’s toughest exam. However, the journey was not new to her and she faced four consecutive failures in making it to the list. But in her fifth attempt, she secured herself the place of becoming an IPS. And with the results announced on this year’s UPSC exams, she finally got her dream fulfilled by securing a stellar 5th rank on an all-India basis.
Her path to success wasn’t easy and there were many hurdles to surmount. However, with her strong will and diligence, she proved nothing comes in your way of fulfilling your dreams if you have determination, dedication, and perseverance.
