Hailing from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Swati Sharma completed her schooling and graduation in the same city. In 2019, she obtained a degree in Computer Science and Technology from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya. Following her graduation, Swati embarked on her journey of preparing for the civil services examination. Initially, she spent a year in Delhi for her preparation. However, with the onset of the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, she made the decision to shift back to Jabalpur and continued her preparations from there. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Swati remained steadfast in her pursuit of the civil services and adapted to the circumstances while diligently working towards her goal.

Swati Sharma lives in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, along with her parents, younger brother, and grandmother. Coming from a middle-class background, her father is employed in the transportation sector. Her mother is a homemaker. Little did this humble and unassuming family anticipate the immense pride their daughter would bring them, forever altering their lives. Their world transformed when the UPSC CSE 2022 results were unveiled, revealing that not only had she conquered the arduous examination but had also achieved an impressive All India Rank of 15.

Swati Sharma Preparation Strategy

Swati Sharma adopted a balanced approach in her preparation, allocating equal time to various sections such as General Studies, Current Affairs, optional subjects, and newspaper analysis. To prevent herself from feeling overwhelmed, she incorporated regular breaks into her study routine.

Studying for approximately 10-12 hours each day, Swati attributed 50% of her success to her own dedication while recognizing the significant contributions of her teachers and parents. Learning from her past attempts, she identified her mistakes and made sincere efforts to rectify them. Swati focused on improving her presentation by incorporating relevant facts and figures into her preparation. Rather than writing in lengthy paragraphs, she utilized bullet points and flowcharts, enabling examiners to comprehend her answers more easily. By employing these strategies, Swati enhanced the clarity and organization of her responses, aiming to maximise her performance in the examination.

Swati Sharma Challenges

Swati Sharma faced significant challenges upon her relocation from Delhi to Jabalpur in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the hurdles she encountered was the limited availability of UPSC study materials in her new location. To overcome this, she resorted to getting the study materials couriered from Delhi, which unfortunately took around 15 days to reach her due to the lockdown restrictions. However, Swati found solace in online resources, particularly YouTube videos, which played a crucial role in her preparation journey. Additionally, she adopted her newspaper reading habits to the online format, as receiving physical copies of national newspapers in Jabalpur took approximately two days. Despite these obstacles, Swati exhibited resilience and resourcefulness in utilizing alternative methods to access the necessary study materials and stay informed about current affairs.

Swati Sharma Success Story

Swati embarked on her third attempt at the UPSC CSE 2022 examination. In her initial attempt in 2020, she fell short of clearing the Prelims exam. Undeterred, Swati persevered and made progress in her second attempt in 2021. She successfully cleared both the Prelims and Mains, proceeding to the interview round. However, despite her best efforts, she did not secure a final selection.

Determined to succeed, Swati recognized the need for additional dedication following her second attempt. She recommenced her preparations with renewed vigor. Opting for Sociology as her optional subject, she was drawn to the availability of resource materials in the market and her personal interest in the subject matter. In her third attempt, Swati’s efforts bore fruit as she achieved an impressive All India Rank of 15, finally attaining success in the UPSC CSE examination.

Swati Sharma opted for Sociology as her optional subject since she believed that as a civil servant, it is essential to address societal issues, and Sociology provides a comprehensive understanding of these concerns. Moreover, she found the availability of study materials related to sociology in the market and the comparatively limited syllabus to be advantageous when compared to other subjects.

Swati Sharma Future Plans

Driven by a desire to uplift women in society and inspire other girls, she harboured a strong ambition of becoming a Civil Servant. Swati envisions utilising her role as an IAS officer to make a positive impact on her nation and its people. She aims to empower women by providing them with financial independence and necessary skills. In addition to her concerns for women’s safety, Swati holds a strong aspiration to promote inclusive education and contribute to the overall social progress of the nation.
